May 23 According to the Mirror, Gary Neville talked about Manchester City's financial violations in an interview.
It is reported that Neville angrily criticized the Manchester City case for a long time, calling it a shame for football. In February 2023, the Premier League accused Manchester City of violating 115 regulations between 2009 and 2018. Although Manchester City has denied all misconduct, the ruling has not been announced since the hearing that began last September.
With the 2024-25 season coming to an end, the football community still does not know when the case will have a clear conclusion. In a media question-and-answer forum, when reporter David Ornstein was asked if there was any latest progress, he only answered one word: "zero". In the latest episode of the TV show, Neville, Scholes and Carragher discussed the topic with football finance expert Kieran Maguire. Neville believes this situation tarnishes football and insists that it must be resolved as soon as possible.
Speaking about this, Neville said: "The Manchester City case is a shame and absolutely tarnished the sport. I admire Manchester City very much, but I don't agree with the idea that they did a good job. It's been delaying for years and it's a joke. Manchester City has been defending itself, but they pushed the problem so far that you lose patience with it and even forget it. This issue has to be dealt with."
Maguire has also talked about this topic before, and he believes some of the allegations may be good for the Premier League, and Manchester City has had the upper hand in the past.
In response to this, Maguire said: "I think we'll see some kind of transitional rule. We've seen that the loan Brighton received from Tony Bloom has been converted into a form between shares and debt. There will be discussions between clubs, lawyers and accountants to determine how existing loans are reclassified as equity. So that will help future developments. Based on historical evidence, I think Manchester City has the upper hand in this lawsuit."
It's a disappointing season for the former league champions. They will end the season after Sunday's game against Fulham, the first time Guardiola has not earned a trophy since coaching. They lost 0-1 to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium last Saturday. If they can win in the last game, Manchester City will lock in the third place.
