Recently, Forbes released the top ten annual income list in the sports industry in 2025. The total total income of these ten people (including salary and business activities income) exceeded US$1.405 billion, equivalent to RMB 10.13 billion, creating the highest amount since the 1990 statistics, which is really amazing. Among them, NBA player Stephen Curry (Warriors) ranked second on the list, breaking the record of 128.2 million US dollars set by James last year, and setting a record of 156 million US dollars in history; James ranked sixth on the list with a total revenue of 133.8 million US dollars, with revenue increasing, but his ranking declined; while Durant ranked tenth on the list with a total revenue of 101.4 million US dollars. It has to be said that Zhan Duku is still the three most profitable stars on this earth.

However, there are those who can make money and there are those who lose their fortunes. Just today, the US media New York Post revealed that former Lakers player and two-time NBA champion Ramal Odom was sued by the landlord for owing $45,000 (about RMB 324,000) for rent. The court finally ruled that he was forced to move out of his rented mansion within the specified time and was brutally evict.

According to court documents released by the New York Post, Odom signed the lease agreement on December 15, 2024, and has been unable to pay $15,000 per month for three consecutive months by March 15, 2025. After the sublease repeated demands for payment without success, he filed a lawsuit on March 20 and officially launched the "confiscation of lease options". The court made a final judgment on April 28, requiring Odom not only to move out of the rent he rented immediately, but also to repay the rent owed, liquidated damages attorney fees and damages.

From NBA champion to homelessness, Odom is really miserable enough. Going back to 1999, the 19-year-old Odom was selected by the Clippers with the fourth pick in the first round, and made his mark in the rookie season, winning three triple-doubles and finally being selected for the Best Rookie Team. After being traded to the Lakers, he helped the team win the NBA championship twice as Kobe's most reliable helper in 2009 and 2010. Among them, in the 2010-11 season, Odom won the first "Best Sixth Man" in the Lakers' history with averaging 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds. Throughout his NBA career, Odom's total income is as high as US$114 million (total on and off the court). It is no exaggeration to say that as long as he spends normal amounts, it will be enough for his whole life.

However, when he retired, his fate took a sharp turn for the worse. In 2015, Odom was in a coma due to drug overdose at a special service center in Nevada, and suffered 12 strokes and 6 heart attacks, nearly killed. During Odom's hospitalization, his ex-wife Khloe Kardashian was with him and suspended their divorce agreement (the two eventually officially divorced in 2016). Although Odom finally succeeded in rehabilitation, his wealth has been completely swallowed up by drugs, gambling and luxury life. In addition, when Odom got addicted to gambling, as a former teammate, Kobe also paid for his six-figure gambling debts out of his own pocket.

" He worked hard to earn a salary of 16 years in the NBA, but he spent all his savings in just 8 years." TMZ Sports once pointed out sadly in the report.

In fact, in NBA history, Odom's experience is not an isolated case. There are many stories about league stars going bankrupt after retirement. According to statistics from professional data website B/R, about 60% of NBA players face serious financial crisis within five years of retirement, which has a lot to do with their consumption habits when they are in service. After the Odom incident was exposed, the bankruptcy of the top ten NBA stars has once again caused heated discussion.

1. Allen Iverson: This former MVP player had a total career income of more than US$200 million. As a result, less than two years after retirement, he went bankrupt due to excessive squandering (must bring 50 people to accompany him on a trip, spending 20,000 US dollars in a bar one night) and investment mistakes (famous car jewelry) and could not even afford a cup of coffee;

2. Antoine Walker: As a former Celtic star, Walker's total career income also exceeded US$108 million. He was also passionate about expensive jewelry and cars, and was addicted to gambling. In 2011, he was officially declared bankrupt due to arrears of $770,000 in the casino;

3. Spreville: The total career income exceeded 100 million US dollars, but after retirement, he lived a miserable life and had to sell real estate. His ex-wife also claimed $200 million in losses and was forced to declare bankruptcy;

4. Text-Baker: The total career income exceeded 100 million US dollars. After retirement, he was overly drunk and blindly made a series of failed investments, and eventually declared bankruptcy;

5. Sean Kemp: The "Rain Man" made nearly $000 million in the NBA, but fell into a financial desperate situation because of raising 11 children born to 7 women, and finally declared bankrupt;

6. Derek Coleman: As the No. 1 pick in 1990, Coleman's total career income exceeded 87 million US dollars. After retirement, he did not know how to control his life, liked to hold parties, and failed blindly invested, and eventually went bankrupt;

7. Larry Johnson: His total career income was close to 83 million US dollars, but he squandered it all, and he was unable to bear the support of his five children (total of 120,000 US dollars), and declared bankrupt;

8. Glen Rice: Rice was selected as the All-Star three times and won an NBA championship trophy, with a total career income of 67 million US dollars, which was also squandered and eventually went bankrupt;

9. Myers: As James' former Cavaliers teammate, Myers' total career income was 62 million US dollars, which was also a luxury life and a failed investment, and declared bankrupt;

10. Dennis Rodman: "Big Bug" has a career of 27 million US dollars, but has been sued many times for owing 800,000 yuan in child support and declared bankruptcy.

From Odom to Iverson, from Rodman to Camp, these superstars who once shined on the NBA court were caught in the cruel reality of bankruptcy after retirement. The rent of $45,000 can crush the two NBA championships. It has to be said that from the peak to the bottom, it is only one step away.
