Legendary captain, Betis official: Joaquín appointed as the club’s new director

Betis officially announced on November 11 that the team’s legendary captain Joaquin has been appointed as the club’s new director.

The Board of Directors of Real Betis Club held a meeting this Sunday afternoon and unanimously decided to appoint Joaquín Sanchez as the new director of the club through co-optation. The appointment will be submitted to shareholders for formal approval at the next general meeting. As a result, Joaquín, the legendary captain in Betis history and a shareholder of the club, will officially join the club management.

Since retiring in 2023, Joaquin has repeatedly expressed his desire to continue to contribute to Real Betis with his experience and knowledge after the end of his professional playing career. Over the past two seasons, he has assumed some institutional and sports-related functions at the club.

After this period of practice, the former captain decided to formally accept the responsibility of the director position, and will continue to deepen his previous work in sports management and maintain direct contact with the athletics department.

Joaquin Sanchez (born in 1981, El Porto de Santa Maria, Cadiz Province, Spain) is one of the most representative players in the history of Real Betis. He has won the Copa del Rey twice with the team (2005, 2022), and has played 528 official games, becoming the player with the most appearances for Betis, surpassing club legends Jose Ramon Esnaura, Julio Cardeniosa and Rafael Gordillo. His career is divided into two stages: 2000 to 2006, and 2015 to 2023.
