Hupu September 13th, the Eredivisie officially announced that Feyenoord coach Van Persie was elected the best coach of the month and became the first coach to win this honor.
It is worth mentioning: In August 2018, Van Persie, who played for Feyenoord, became the first Eredivisie player of the month in history. Seven years later, a new trophy was added to his honor room, which was also his first personal award in his coaching career.
The 42-year-old Rotterdam coach led Feyenoord to win the opening match against NAC Breda (2-0) and defeated the SBV elite (1-2) and Sparta (0-4) in the Rotterdam derby. The team led the Eredivisie standings with 9 points in all three games and a goal difference of 7. What is more worth mentioning is that Feyenoord is still the only club in the league that remains unbeaten despite one less game.
Rinos Michels's Best Coach of the Month Award was jointly founded by the Dutch Eredivisie, the Dutch Professional Football Coach Association, Football Coach Magazine and ESPN. The organizers aim to create a new display platform for the coaching community in the Netherlands’ top league through this award.
The establishment of this award continues the successful experience of the annual Renus Michels Award (awarded by the Dutch Professional Football Coaches Association and Football Coaches magazine since the 2003-04 season) and the Eredivisie Player of the Month (promoted since the 2018-19 season). The award is named after the legendary coach Renus Michels, a meritorious Dutch coach named the best coach of the century by FIFA in 1999 and was also hailed by the French "League" as the "greatest coach in history".
