Sky: English female football player is racist online, FA considers boycotting social media

4:01pm, 26 July 2025Football

July 25th According to Sky News, English women's football players suffered serious racial discrimination during the Women's Football European Cup, and the FA England considered boycotting two major social media X and Instagram.

English FA CEO Mark Bringham said in an interview with Sky News that the FA will consider boycotting these platforms if social media platforms continue to ignore racial discrimination. Previously, England's women's football player Jesse Carter suffered severe cyber violence during the Women's European Cup in Switzerland.

Bringham said that since the FA reported the abuse Carter suffered to the British police, X platform Instagram has made no response. He believes these companies have been evading responsibility for the past few years and hopes that new online security legislation can make a real difference.

Bringham also mentioned that this issue has become a priority for the FA since the players suffered racial discrimination for missing penalty kicks after England's men's football team lost to Italy in the 2021 European Cup final. Now all England players receive police training on how to deal with cyber racism.

Despite these problems, the English women's football players are still focused on the upcoming European Cup final, which will face the Spanish women's football team. Brinham praised the success of the English women's football team, calling it a "golden age than ever before".
