On the evening of May 25, Real Madrid Club of La Liga announced that Spanish coach Xavi Alonso would serve as the team's head coach.
Real Madrid wrote in an announcement released on its official website that Xavi Alonso will serve as the head coach of Real Madrid for the next three seasons, with a term from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028.

Alonso was born in November 1981 and played for Real Sociedad and Liverpool. In the summer of 2009, 28-year-old Alonso switched to Real Madrid and played for the "Galaxy Battleship" until 2014. From 2009 to 2014, he played 236 times for Real Madrid and won 6 championships with the team.
Alonso is also a legend of the Spanish national team. He has participated in 113 international competitions with the team, winning 1 World Cup (2010) and 2 European Championships (2008 and 2012). After retiring, Alonso started his coaching career with Real Madrid youth team. In 2022, Alonso served as the head coach of the Bundesliga Leverkusen and led the team to win the first Bundesliga championship in team history with an unbeaten record in the 2023-2024 seasons. That season, Leverkusen also won the German Cup. In the 2024-2025 season, Alonso led Leverkusen to finish second in the Bundesliga.
In the early morning of May 25, Italian coach Ancelotti had just completed his last game of coaching Real Madrid.
Real Madrid said that Alonso's signing ceremony will be held on the evening of May 26.
