Menion s transfer has entered a critical stage: Chelsea officially takes action to compete

According to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea Football Club has officially submitted a quotation worth 15 million euros to AC Milan, aiming to introduce French goalkeeper Mike Meinion. The move marks a major shift in the West London team’s strategy in the summer transfer window. Previously, new head coach Enzo Maresca had planned to give young goalkeeper Giorge Petrovic more time to prove himself, and did not make introducing a new goalkeeper a priority. However, given Robert Sanchez's ups and downs in form last season and the team's ambition to return to the Champions League, the club's top leaders decided to introduce a patron saint with top international standards and extensive experience to strengthen the defense.

For AC Milan, this transaction is also at a critical juncture. The 29-year-old Meinian has only one year left in the contract with the club and will expire in June 2026, which means that if it is not sold at this moment, Milan will face the risk of losing both people and money in the future. It is reported that Milan's asking price is about 30 million euros, which is a gap with Chelsea's first round offer of 15 million euros. Nevertheless, negotiations are underway and it is very likely that both sides will eventually reach an agreement at a price of around €18 million. The key driver of the rapid development of this deal is the urgency of time. Romano revealed that Meinion has reached an agreement with Chelsea on personal terms, clearing a big obstacle for the transfer. More importantly, Chelsea must complete all signing procedures by the upcoming Tuesday to ensure that Meinion is eligible to represent the team in the new version of the Club World Cup. According to the schedule, the Blues will welcome their first opponent in the group stage - Leon Club in Mexico on June 17.
At the same time, AC Milan is also ready for Meinion's departure. They are actively operating the transfer of Roma goalkeeper Meyer SVeral, whose contract will also expire in 2026. The Ross and Blacks hope that SVeral can become its ideal successor once the deal for Menion is officially finalized.

In the just-concluded 2024/25 season, Meinion made 43 appearances for AC Milan, and was recognized as one of the best goalkeepers in the Serie A in the previous two seasons. Therefore, if Chelsea finally signs the top goalkeeper who had been worth more than €40 million at his peak for less than €20 million, this will undoubtedly be regarded as an extremely smart and successful deal.
