If Manchester United beat Tottenham in the UEFA Cup final on May 22, they will automatically qualify for the Champions League next season and receive a prize of up to 100 million pounds. But Inex Group still adheres to strict cost-cutting policies.
British media reported that Manchester United players were dissatisfied with the club's "stinginess" in the ticketing and related arrangements for the UEFA Cup final. The players were particularly angry about tickets, flights and hotel arrangements, and coach Amorin also made other moves.
It is reported that Manchester United club only provides two free tickets for each player for relatives and friends, including chartered flights to Santander, Spain (Santand is about 60 miles from the competition site Bilbao).
On the day of the game, the players' relatives and friends can enjoy food and drinks in the team's hotel's conference room. However, even if United wins at the San Mames Stadium, the players cannot celebrate with their relatives and friends, as the flight back from Santander is scheduled to take off at 2:15 a.m. and the drive from Bilbao to Santander is more than an hour.
In addition, players can purchase up to 10 additional UEFA tickets at face value, ranging from £55 to £200, but they are responsible for additional flight and hotel costs at their own expense.
The support staff of Manchester United traveling with the team, including equipment managers, have not received free tickets for relatives and friends.
It is reported that UEFA has allocated 15,000 tickets to Manchester United and Tottenham. Tottenham provides each full-time employee with a free ticket, while Manchester United only reserves a small number of tickets for employee draws... Employees who failed to go to the scene were invited to watch the game at Diecast in Manchester to watch the game through the viewing party. Each person can get two drinks for free and are allowed to bring a companion, but the other party has to pay for it. Sources said that Manchester United's priority is to ensure that as many fans as possible can get tickets, and more than 90% of the 14,770 tickets have been directly allocated to eligible fans through draws.
ESPN reporter Mark Ogden reported that Manchester United coach Amorin paid out of his own pocket and invited several club employees to watch the finals on site.
Sources revealed to ESPN that Amorin has paid 30 Manchester United logistics personnel to take their families to Bilbao to watch the game. This includes the team’s logistics team, as well as some low-paying employees, to reward and recognize their contributions and efforts during the club’s tough six months. When Amorin learned that the club would not pay for his coach and staff, he told Manchester United executives that he would bear the expenses to ensure each employee can bring up to two friends or family to watch the game.
