F1: Norris explained why he was "worrying" before winning Monaco

7:45pm, 20 August 2025Football

Norris explained how he dealt with different Formula One tracks on a psychological level, and revealed that he was actually "worrying" in front of Monaco.

After hitting a low point early in the season, the British driver rebounded to some extent by McLaren's exclusive front suspension improvements, and his recent outstanding performance has rekindled hopes for the world championship. When F1 ends next week's summer break, he starts the second half of the season at Zandwater T-Road, he is only less than ten behind teammate Piastri in the driver's standings.

Winning Austria and Hungary stations allowed everyone to see Norris' best condition. He was fast, calm in judgment, and tough when necessary. His previous psychological shadow no longer bothered him.

When asked if there was any victory in a game that was particularly relevant to a specific track, Norris said it was not easy to point it out clearly, because recently he has also performed well in some fields that he was not good at. He told several media: "It's hard to say."

"I mean, some tracks give me a better feeling, usually those venues that I have always been good at. If you look back at tracks like Red Bull Ring, it has always been a venue that I can enjoy and be particularly fit."

"I think this is very consistent with my feelings, and it is also the reason why I always express my feelings very bluntly, because the better I feel in the cockpit, the better I perform."

After winning the home UK game, Norris was asked whether his condition improved was the change of the MCL39 front suspension, and he denied this statement. However, he explained that the improvements were to give him a more sense of road when passing corners, which was the area he had struggled with before.

Norris added: "It's quite linear, they're one-to-one, and part of my job is to prove that this is not an ideal feeling and try to adjust it to at least be close to what I feel good about, but that's the trickiest moment."

"So, like the Chinese station, this kind of race that usually tests the limits of the front wheel, you'll rely more on the feeling you get from the steering wheel. This is the part I'm struggling this year and the moment I'm running more hard."

"And some tracks... Sometimes I can perform well, even in Monte Carlo, I was always worried about death. Last year, the front wheel was pelletized and performed poorly, but this year it became one of my best races."

"So there are many situations where my expectations were worse, but it was actually very good. However, those tracks that require higher limits on the front wheel, rely on a lot of front wheel grip and require a good turnaround feeling are usually where I am more struggling."
