September 4 Echo reported that Liverpool confirmed the 22-man Champions League roster, Federico Chiesa was absent.
Liverpool has confirmed the 22-man roster to participate in the new season's Champions League group stage, the most notable of which is Chiesa's failure to be selected. As the six-time Champions League champion, the Reds hope to achieve better results on the basis of stopping in the quarterfinals last season and advance as the Premier League champion. The Reds will start their league stage game at home against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, September 17. At this stage, 36 participating teams will face eight different opponents.
Slot's team will also face Real Madrid, Eindhoven and Karabach at home, and will go to Galatasaray, Frankfurt, Inter Milan and Marseille for away games, with the first phase of the match ending at the end of January. Each team can register up to 25 players on the main "A-list", including at least 8 places that must be trained or youth-trained by UEFA, i.e., players who have been trained for at least three years at that club or other clubs under the same national association between the ages of 15 and 21.
Liverpool chose a 22-man squad, including newly signed Wilz, Isaac, Ekitic, Flynnon, Kolkz, Leoni, Mamaldashvili and Freddy Woodman.
However, due to only 17 non-local training spots, Chiesa failed to enter the roster for this game. Leo Ngumoha is also seen as a non-local player, as he only joined Liverpool last year.
In addition, Trey Nioni and Jaden Dance were not on the roster, although they competed in the Champions League last season and were eligible, but could be included in the "B-list" due to their age and club training status. Clubs can register an unlimited number of "B-list" players during the season and update the roster before each game.
According to UEFA regulations, "A player who is born on or after January 1, 2004 and who is eligible for two consecutive years or a total of three years (including a loan period not exceeding one year) from the age of 15, can be placed on the B list. A 16-year-old player who has been registered in the participating club uninterruptedly for the past two years can also be placed on the B list."
If Liverpool can advance to the knockout stage, the top eight will go directly to the Final 16, and the teams ranked ninth to twenty-fourth will need to pass the play-offs, they will be allowed to change the "A list" and add three new players who qualify while maintaining the 25-man total number limit.
