June 7 According to ESPN, citing Dutch media Het Parool, Ajax striker Brobi has been blackmailed for a long time, and one of his friends has even been shot.
23-year-old Brobi plays for Ajax and is selected for the Dutch national team. He has had transfer scandals with Premier League teams such as Manchester United and West Ham in the past, but Brobi's form has declined recently. Media revealed that Broby has been subject to blackmail since 2022 and the suspect is a criminal named Jeymon A. He found Brobi in the winter of 2022 and claimed to have helped him solve a problem of "Moroccans from Utrecht" and blackmailed Brobi "high compensation".
Het Parool said that this was a means of extortion imitating Holleeder, the most notorious criminal in the Netherlands, to fabricate some of the so-called enemies of the rich out of thin air, claiming that he solved the problem and demanded high rewards from the rich. Broby did not accept this kind of blackmail, and then he began to encounter various attacks.
In January 2023, Brobi's mother-in-law's mailbox was thrown away and fireworks were lit; two months later, Brobi's car exploded, and this happened the day before Ajax's match against Feyenoord, when Brobi came on as a substitute in the 77th minute of that game. In April 2023, Broby's sister-in-law's car was set on fire. In July 2023, a boyhood friend of Broby was shot and injured when he stopped him. After the shooting, Broby received a text message asking him to pay 150,000 euros and threatened that "otherwise we will act in different ways."
Jeymon A has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges including attempted manslaughter, illegal possession of a gun, possession of 1.6 kilograms of marijuana, etc. Although the prosecution did not include his extortion against Broby in the criminal case indictment against Jeymon A, the relevant content has been written into the official report for reference by the court.
Het Parool said there was no evidence that Brobie paid Jeymon A, and Brobi refused to do so. Ajax didn't learn about it until the shooting and extortion of 150,000 euros, and the club had no idea about it before. "The Ajax management has little attention to this matter and has known nothing for many years." The media in Amsterdam, Netherlands, began reporting on the matter in November last year, but did not disclose Brobi's name. This is because Brobi was still competing for the Eredivisie championship for Ajax at the time, and his lawyer also clearly asked the media not to mention Brobi's name.
Ajax management said through a spokesperson that they will not make any statements about the players' private lives. Het Parool also contacted Broby himself, and Broby briefly responded: "Private life should be kept private. This experience is over for me. It is useless to look back on the past, I focus on the future."
