"Desperate" Arsenal "prepared to" unexpectedly sign Chelsea loser

Mickel Arteta celebrates victory after the match.

According to Liverpool's interest in him, Arsenal hopes to sign Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku in the summer transfer window. The Gunners' performance this season is generally disappointing, with no trophy for the fifth consecutive season except the Community Shield.

Arsenal failed to approach Liverpool in the second half of the season because it won the Premier League title at the end of April.

Arteta's side performed well in the Champions League, winning over defending champion Real Madrid with a total score of 5-1 in the quarter-finals but lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.

Arteta and new sports director Andrea Berta are eager to ensure the team ends the trophy drought next season by bringing in a large number of new faces in the summer.

One aspect that everyone agreed they needed to improve was the front line, with Kay Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both missing earlier this year due to injuries, and the two combined goals were not enough.

midfielder Mikel Merino has been a temporary striker for the past few months and has performed very well in some games, but Arsenal reportedly hopes to sign a new center and a winger in the summer.

Now the Sun claims that Chelsea's "London rival Arsenal" is considering introducing Nkunku, who has only started nine Premier League games this season under Enzo Maresca.

Arsenal "desperately hope to strengthen their firepower" and Gunners coach Arteta "considered the 27-year-old as a good choice to join the team next season".

Liverpool, Manchester United, West Ham United, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are the other five teams that are paying attention to the future development of the French player.

But Arsenal, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are said to be "main contenders" to sign Nkunku, but Chelsea "will rather see the player transfer abroad" because they "know that there may be risks in selling him to rival clubs".

It is understood that Nkunku "relatively prefers to transfer to the Champions League club", so West Ham United ruled out, while Manchester United had to wait to see if they could beat Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday night.

A report earlier this week said Liverpool had “joined” Nkunku’s bid and the Reds had “started” discussions about the deal after adding the striker to the “shortlist” by the summer.
