Quinton Rose, the man who changed Yi Jianlian

12:50am, 23 July 2025Basketball

Does anyone still remember Quinton Rose? Darrell Arthur's cousin, a small forward and guard who is good at defending, once replaced Yi Jianlian alone (in June 2010, the New Jersey Nets [now known as Brooklyn Nets] exchanged Yi Jianlian for three million cash for Quinton Ross).

Quinton Ross, Quinton Ross, 6-foot-6 (198 cm), plays as a shooting guard (SG)/small forward (SF). He was born on April 30, 1981 in Dallas, the third largest city in Texas, USA. He was produced by Southern Methodist University. He did not pass the draft in 2004 and signed with the Los Angeles Clippers to enter the NBA as a free agent. In his NBA career in the past seven seasons, Quinton Ross has played for five teams, including the Clippers (2004-2008), the Grizzlies (2008-2009), the Mavericks (now known as Mavericks, 2009-2010.2), the Wizards (2010.2-2010.6), and the Nets (2010-2011.4). He played a total of 458 games in the regular season, including 169 starts, averaging 18.5 minutes per game, scoring 4.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.3 blocks. He played in a total of 12 games in the playoffs, including 10 starts, averaging 24.5 minutes per game, scoring 7.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.7 blocks.

Qunton Ross is a well-known outside defense expert. He is usually responsible for marking the opponent's number one outside player. He moves fast and has a strong will. He can set enough interference for his opponent. He has the ability to limit the score of the top swinger to a certain range. He has good long shot ability and strong breakthrough ability. He has a large range of crossing on the front and has a fast start. When holding the ball on both sides, he can easily complete layups or emergency stop jumpers based on speed. He plays a single from low-post back baskets and is also one of the offensive methods he is good at. His outstanding elasticity makes his step-back jumpers very stable. In addition, he is a left-handed, which often makes the opponent unable to defend. However, his figure is not an advantage and lacks strong ability to fight within the inside, which leads to low finishing efficiency at the basket, making it difficult to score strongly at the basket like some strong forward players, with limited passing vision and assist ability, and insufficient three-point stability.

Local time in the United States, on November 29, 2006, in the Los Angeles Clippers' home victory over the Memphis Grizzlies 105:90, Quinton Ross started for 33 minutes, scored 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, and sent out the highest 5 steals in a single game in the NBA career. On January 17, 2007, in the Los Angeles Clippers' home victory over the Golden State Warriors 115:109, Quinton Ross started for 39 minutes, made 11 of 19 shots, and made 2 free throws, scoring the highest single-game 24 points in NBA career, plus 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks, filling the data bar. In April 2011, the New Jersey Nets (now known as the Brooklyn Nets) cut Quinton Ross, and since then he gradually faded out of the NBA. Apart from being an occasional TV commentator, he rarely appears in public, but enjoys family life.
