Celtics are expected to become a seed team in the Champions League playoffs

7:05am, 20 May 2025Basketball

The Celtics need to wait until next Saturday, when the final round of the Croatian League League ends, before knowing whether they can become a seed team in the Champions League play-off next season.

As the current situation, the Celtics are in the non-seeded team on the signing table, but if Dynamo Zagreb fails to win the league title and hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, that will change.

In the same city derby in Zagreb on Saturday, Dynamo Zagreb drew 1-1 away, leaving Rijka still retaining hope of winning the championship. Originally, if the latter could win the league title in advance if they could defeat Split Heiduke away in this round, they would have won 1-2.

This loss allowed Dynamo Zagreb and Rijka to score 62 points, and the final champion will be decided next Saturday. In the final round, Rijka played against Bilupu at home, while Dynamo Zagreb played against Wades at home. If the two teams still scored the same after the last round, Rijka will win the championship with the advantage of the record of the two sides' match (4-1).

If the Celtics become the seed team in the play-offs, they can avoid strong teams such as Bode Shine, Copenhagen, Ferencvaros and Belgrade Red Star, and will draw a non-seeded team. Currently, Slovakia's team Bratislava is the highest-ranked non-seeded team. The draw for the third round of the Champions League qualifiers and the playoffs will be held on August 5. The playoff two rounds will be held on August 19/20 and 26/27.
