Byron Scott: Triangle offense doesn t work now because the players aren t smart enough

Former NBA head coach Byron Scott said in his podcast "Byron Scott 's Fast Break" that Princeton tactics and triangular offenses won't work in today's NBA because the players aren't smart enough.

"When you run a triangle offense or what we used to say about Princeton tactics, if you have a player with a high basketball IQ like you said, you don't need to shout any tactics at all," Scott said. "Because the defense will determine how you want to attack."

"So, if you have smart players, they will figure out what to do right away," Scott said. "If you put pressure on us, we'll retreat further. Now, our court space will be larger. That way, you can do the backdoor cut and other things.

"It's entirely based on interpretation, all by interpretation," Scott added. "I think one of the reasons they said that this tactic doesn't work today is because the players aren't smart enough. ”
