June 11, The Daily Telegraph reported that Chelsea may compete with Newcastle for Burnley goalkeeper Trafford. Burnley has priced more than 30 million pounds for players.
The Telegraph pointed out that Newcastle has negotiated with Burnley on Trafford, but the two clubs still have differences on transfer fees.
Newcastle is worried that the other party will delay negotiations, perhaps hoping that another club (probably Chelsea) will join the transfer bidding war, and Newcastle has tracked players for more than a year.
Burnley's price for Trafford is more than £30 million. But Newcastle still needs to sign at least one central defender and a forward this summer, so it is still unwilling to match the asking price. Negotiations are still ongoing, but Newcastle has issued a warning that they will exit the negotiations if Burnley refuses to lower the asking price.
It is reported that Trafford's negotiations have been complicated by Manchester City's share clause. Manchester City sells Trafford to Burnley in 2023 and they are entitled to a 20% second transfer share clause. Manchester City also retains the buyback terms, but currently believes they have no intention of competing with Newcastle United. However, Chelsea, who also admires Trafford, may join the bid.
