June 9th, in the European League final, Portugal defeated Spain 5-3 through a penalty shootout and successfully won the championship. As a guest, Portuguese legend Pepe was interviewed after the game.
Pepe said: "First of all, I would like to congratulate the Football Association, the players, all the staff. It is always special for Portugal to win the championship, especially the opponent is a strong Spain, they played very well, and Spain won the European Cup a year ago."
Pepe continued: "When we were eliminated in the European Cup last year, I said that this Portugal team would learn a lot from that setback. It is a young team, but it has great potential, and they have proved it. I think it is against Portugal. It was a very good game for Portugal, and they won the championship they deserve, congratulations to everyone."
Finally, Pepe said: "I think the team is building a winning mentality. The current generation of Portuguese players has great potential, and I think the coach has done a good job, combining experienced players and young players well, creating a very important foundation for the future. We must be down-to-earth, enjoy this victory, and start preparing for the World Cup. Stay calm and don't be too excited."
