Manchester United wants to sell Hoylund at half price, Leipzig scorer becomes number one replacement

According to reliable sources, Manchester United clubs are ready to take huge losses to sell Danish striker Rasmus Hoylund at a price lower than half the price introduced two years ago. Potential buyers surfaced, and the Red Devils have locked RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Cesco as a direct replacement.
Hoylund's performance in the just-concluded 2024-25 season was disappointing. He scored only four goals in the Premier League in more than 2,000 minutes. In comparison, as many as 76 players in the Premier League last season scored more goals than him in league games, and even Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson's total goals and assists (4 times) were on par with him. Based on such a sluggish output, Manchester United is open to the sale of Hoylund. According to BBC Sports, Manchester United management led by coach Ruben Amorin is willing to accept offers as low as £30 million to facilitate the deal.
Manchester United paid a basic transfer fee of £64 million when signing Hoylund from Atlanta in 2023, plus a floating clause of up to £8 million. Club small shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe previously revealed that Manchester United is still paying the Danish international's transfer fee balance in installments and placing it among players he believes are "under-level" and "overpaid".
Despite being harshly evaluated by the current boss, Hoylund, now 22, is not short of suitors. Serie A AC Milan, Inter Milan and Naples all expressed interest in it, while ESPN pointed out that Bundesliga team RB Leipzig is also a potential buyer. RB Leipzig may need to find a new striker, provided their main scorer Sesco leaves the team this summer. The Slovenian international has similar potential traits to Hoylund and has been regarded by Manchester United as the number one target for forward signings this summer, and Newcastle United is also eyeing him.
Hoylund himself recently expressed his willingness to stay in the team. He made it clear at the end of July: "My plan is very clear, that is, stay and fight for your position, no matter what happens." However, coach Amorin did not give a guarantee to stay in the team. He admitted that Hoylund was "progressing", but said at the same time: "I can't predict what will happen until the transfer window is closed. We suffered a lot of pain last season because of the lack of goals."
