On October 19, after Barcelona defeated Girona 2-1, head coach Flick accepted a post-match interview. He explained the game, substitutions and a controversial gesture after the game.
What do you think of this thrilling victory?
Yeah, it's a tough game. We won three points. We'll have to see what this means for the future. This win will give us confidence for the next game and I'm very happy for the team.
What were your considerations in making substitution adjustments in the second half, especially replacing Pedri?
We created more opportunities in the second half. What it comes down to is this, we have to keep making changes. Pedri has played a lot of minutes and he is a very important player. We have to manage everyone's playing time because the next game is very important, there is the Champions League and El Clasico. The important thing is to win the game and we did that with these substitutions.
How do you evaluate Araujo’s performance? He pushed to a more advanced position at the last moment
I am very happy and happy for Araujo. He always gives everything for this team. I spoke to him before the substitution and asked him if it was possible to play in that position (more advanced) and he told me yes. We tried everything to win the game and I'm very happy for the fans and it's an added bonus for us.
After Araujo scored, you made a celebratory gesture, which sparked some discussion. Can you explain it?
Football is passion, and we invested more energy than expected in such a tense game. This is my emotion. To me, it was great that we scored that goal and that's how I celebrated. The gesture was not directed at anyone, it was purely my way of expressing and celebrating that goal.
