Derwent: I have the ambition to become the main player; Magic Flute doesn’t complain about others and should shut up

Hupu reported on October 10th that AC Milan’s new signing, Belgian defender Derwent, said in an interview with “NieuwsbladSport” that he hopes to gain a foothold in AC Milan and win the starting position.

The transfer fee is 20 million euros. Is this a good deal?

"If you look at the transfer market prices in recent years, I think AC Milan got a good price from Genoa."

You are currently mostly a substitute. Does this have an impact on you?

"Now I am a substitute, but I am not qualified to make demands on Allegri yet. I have demands on myself and the ambition to become the main player. Now I need to stay humble, and sooner or later I will be rewarded."

Are you excited to join Milan?

"We are talking about Milan, one of the biggest clubs in Europe. When I was a kid, I watched Ronaldinho play here. My family is not a football-intensive family, and we don't have pay TV to watch foreign leagues, but I often saw Milan games in the Champions League. That Milan was a dream team, with Ronaldinho, Pato and Beckham. That temperament is still there."

After playing for Milan, can you still go out with peace of mind?

"Italian fans are passionate inside the pitch - I love that aggressive atmosphere - but they respect you off the pitch. The only player who would bring chaos to the restaurant is Modric. But then again... when you're that good, that's normal."

You worked with Ronaldo at Juventus. Do you think Modric is better?

"It's hard to compare, they are different types of players, but both are very good. But I must say, Modric really impressed me. First of all, his football intelligence: he sees the game differently, thinks faster, and is technically very good. Off the field he is also admirable - very humble, never puts himself before others, and his list of past achievements is incredible. And he never complains, even if he needs to keep running. If he doesn't complain, why should anyone else?"
