Bruno Fernandez: Manchester United waits for club captain to respond to the future

5:30pm, 3 June 2025Football

Manchester United is waiting for news from club captain Bruno Fernandez about whether he wants to stay at the club, and Saudi professional league club Alshiral is interested.

The Saudi club is willing to make Fernandez one of the world's highest-paid players and pay £100m to sign the Manchester United captain, although no official offer has been provided for the 30-year-old.

Fernandez has not yet decided whether he wants to transfer to Alsiral and is believed to talk to his family before making the decision. His agent Miguel Pinho has been in Riyadh with senior executives at Al Hilal, and Saudi Professional League insiders believe that Pinho's trip to Saudi Arabia is a positive sign for Al Hilal.

However, Manchester United doesn't want to sell, and head coach Ruben Amorin wants Fernandez to stay and believe his captain wants to stay at Old Trafford. It is believed that United weighs any potential offer to Fernandez only if they communicate with the club he wants to leave.

Sky Sports News was told that Fernandez has not yet formally expressed to the club whether he is willing to accept the new challenge. Alshiral is willing to raise Fernandez’s weekly wages nearly triple, at £250,000 a week. ESPN's Mark Ogden and Daily Mail's Ian Laidiman have assessed whether United have the ability to reject Alchillard's offer to Fernandez, the Portuguese international will turn 31 in September, renewing his contract with the team until 2027 last summer and has a 12-month renewal option. Alchal also negotiated a signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, and he will be a free agent next month if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Al Nassr.

Arhilar predicts that when they compete in the Club World Cup in June in the United States, at least one big-name player and a new head coach will be signed.

Amorin: I think Fernandez wants to stay at Manchester United

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorin believes captain Fernandez will stay at the club. When asked if Fernandez played the last game in a friendly match against Hong Kong, China, Amorin replied: "I don't think so. I'm not sure, no one knows, but I don't think so.

"I think he wants to stay, he said 'no' to a lot of things, but it shows that he wants to win. "He's really good and needs to get into the best league in the world." Yes [we can turn down the bid for £100m] and we can find another way to make money.

"Of course, I'm the head coach, but sometimes it's the player's decision, but of course I'll talk to him, I explain things, I just feel that way." When you talk to someone, you have that feeling, if he wants to stay.

"Of course, he's very upset in a lot of games this season, but he knows what we're doing." Every time I talk to him, it's my feeling that he definitely wants to stay at Manchester United. But you never know.

Mbemo, who is interested in signing Brentford, is interested in signing Brentford striker Brian Mbemo in a matter of doubts about the future of Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho.

It is understood that they were encouraged by Mbemo to come to Old Trafford. Negotiations have not been held between the clubs, but formal discussions are now expected. Manchester United will face competition, and many Premier League clubs are interested in the player.

Manchester United hopes to act quickly in the transfer market and give Amorin as much time as possible to accompany his players before the new season. Mbemo is about to enter the final year of his contract with Brentford, although the club can choose to extend it for another year.

Sky Sports Darmesh Sheth provided breaking news, United's pursuit of Brian Mbemo is rapidly increasing Brentford will hear offers from Mbemo and Jon Visa after Brentford striker Brian Mbemo said he would encourage a transfer to Old Trafford, but they don't have any pressure to sell any players. There is a feeling inside the club that if Mbemo meets his valuation, he has won the opportunity to transfer to a bigger club this summer. According to Sky Sports News, this is considered to be over £60m, and his current contract is actually two years left (one year plus one year option), keeping the club in a healthy state.
