8:42am, 6 July 2025Basketball

July 6th According to the latest report by well-known sports reporter Shams Charania, the Rockets confirmed to trade forward player Cameron Whitmore to the Wizards to exchange for two second-round draft picks.

Whitmore was selected by the Rockets with the 20th overall pick in the 20th NBA Draft. However, despite being a talented potential stock, the Rockets have always struggled to give him stable playing time. Shams Charania said in his report: "This deal will give Whitmore, who is about to turn 21, more opportunities for the Wizards in the reconstruction. It is worth mentioning that Whitmore was born in Maryland, and this return has also brought him one step closer to home."

Shams Charania also said: "In the past few weeks, the Rockets' management has worked closely with Whitmore himself and his agent team to find a new place for him. It is reported that the Rockets have received multiple trading offers about Whitmore, but they hope to find a platform for the young player to take off his career."

This season, the Wizards have frequent operations, first introducing defender CJ McCollum and center Kelly Olynick from the Pelicans, sending out Jordan Poole and Sadiq Bay, and swapping multiple second-round picks. Meanwhile, the Wizards also selected Texas defender Trey Johnson with the fifth pick in the draft last month.

In sharp contrast, the Rockets recently completed the league-shaking Kevin Durant deal and signed veteran wing Dorian Finney-Smith** and insider Clint Capela in the free market, greatly enhancing their championship strength.

Whitmore is 6-foot-7 (about 2.01 meters), and he is on the wing. During his two years at Houston, he averaged 10.8 points per game. Statistics show that he scored 0.46 points per touch last season, ranking fourth in the league among all players with more than 1,000 touches, and his scoring efficiency is amazing.
