San Antonio Spurs hires LeBron James former teammate as player development coach

7:38am, 20 August 2025Basketball

According to Akansh Choudhury, a reporter from the US sports media NBA Analysis Network. The San Antonio Spurs have an excellent young core that could win multiple NBA championships in the future.

Victor Vinbanyama is undoubtedly the cornerstone star of the San Antonio Spurs. Around him, the Spurs also defended NBA Rookie of the Year Stephen Castle.

To make things better, the Spurs also have the second pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The organization uses it to pick another talented point guard, Dylan Harper.

Finally, the team also has De Aaron Fox as a veteran, who signed a huge $229 million contract extension with the team.

San Antonio Spurs welcomed Rashad Lewis as player development coach

Although the Spurs have a phenomenal core, most of them are still in the budding stage of their careers.

Therefore, it is wise to hire a talented player development coach. According to NBA insider Michael Scotto, former 2 NBA All-Star Rashad Lewis has been handed over to the task by the Spurs.

" Rashad Lewis will be a player development coach for the San Antonio Spurs. He is a two-time NBA All-Star and 2013 championship, averaging 14.9 points in mid-game in 16 seasons with the Seattle Supersonics, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat. He is also an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons,” Scotto reported via X.

Rashard Lewis brings NBA championship experience

At the prime of his career, Lewis was one of the NBA's most prolific forwards, and his two All-Star selections proved.

By the early 2010s, however, Lewis became a role player for the Washington Wizards. He later joined the Miami Heat and spent the last two seasons of his career.

Lewis is part of the Heat's 2013 NBA championship roster, including LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

He was also a member of the 2014 Heat roster as they were defeated by the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

But no matter what the situation is, more and more players have now become the core of the team's coaching staff after retirement, and continue to shine and heat the other side to cultivate a new generation of players to achieve the highest honor.

But I have to say that with the resignation of the Spurs meritorious coach Popovich to the second line, the changes in the team's various aspects are no longer the style of the former Spurs. What do you think?
