James claims to have not made a decision yet! The outside world expects to play for another year: Retirement is still a possible option

On May 9, Lakers star James revealed in the latest podcast that he has not yet made a decision on the future. "I haven't talked to my family about my future plans yet, no matter what the end will happen," said James, 40. "But let's see." The Lakers were eliminated by the Timberwolves in the playoffs last week, and the offseason came much earlier than everyone expected. This summer, the Lakers face many urgent problems, one of the most popular focuses is the stay and departure of the team superstar James.

James may both become a free agent this summer and may choose to retire. The star has explored this topic many times in depth in the past few offseasons, and now the end of his career seems to be getting closer. James has a $52.6 million player option, and many in the league expect him to play for another season. However, before the last moment, no one can guarantee that James will return to the arena next season. If he decides to continue playing in the NBA, this will be his 23rd season in the NBA, which also means he is expected to start a farewell tour. It is still unknown what choice James will make in the end. But it is undeniable that he still maintains an extremely high competitive level. Even though he is over 40, James is still one of the best players in the league and has not declined significantly.

Former NBA player Pierce once suggested that the Lakers "give up" James and rebuild for the future. The Lakers' future is full of uncertainty. James had previously admitted: "I have a lot to consider... I don't know what the team's lineup will look like next season, nor do I know where I am on the team." When talking about Doncic's deal, James also said: "That's not my business... This deal is for the future of the team and has nothing to do with me."

If James jumps out of the contract, he can choose to sign other teams. If James chooses to execute the $52.7 million player option, the Lakers may face the problem of tight salary space. Although James has not confirmed his future yet, he once sighed: "Damn, I can't stay in the league for long." As many people expect Doncic to replace James as the new core of the Lakers, James also made it clear: "He is only 26 years old, I am 40 years old, and he cannot bind his career to me. This is a fact."

What choice will James make? Time will give the answer.
