According to domestic media sources, former NBA player Omari Spellman has completed the signing of the CBA team Beijing, and he will also appear in the CBA field for the first time in the new season.

Spelman was born in July 1997 and is 28 years old, 203cm tall and weighs 129kg. He is a forward player from Villanova University selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 30th pick in the first round in the 2018 NBA Draft. Spelman has played in the NBA field with the Hawks and Golden State Warriors, who selected him. He has played 95 times in the NBA regular season, averaging 17.8 minutes per game, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks. He also has 0.9 turnovers and 1.4 fouls. He has 41.7% shooting percentage, 36.6% from three-point shooting percentage and 76.6% from free throws. Spellman was sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves by the Warriors in February 2020, and he did not appear in the NBA again after being traded. In January 2021, Spellman was sent to the New York Knicks by the Timberwolves. He was later cut by the Knicks and never received a contract from an NBA team.

Spellman had been working hard in the Korean League in the previous season. Last season, he first joined the VTB League team St. Petersburg Zenit, but he was terminated by the team in the middle of the season. He also returned to the Korean K League in the second half of last season and joined the New Generation of Wonshu Dongpo. In the VTB League last season, Spelman made a total of 23 appearances, averaging 23.1 minutes per game, with averaging 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.7 blocks. He also had 1.2 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. His shooting percentage was 53.2%, his three-point shooting percentage was 48.5%, and his free throw shooting percentage was 64%. In the K League last season, Spelman made a total of 14 appearances, averaging 31.6 minutes per game, with averaging 17.8 points, 8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.0 blocks, and 2.1 turnovers and 1.5 fouls. His shooting percentage was 40.3%, three-point shooting percentage was 33.3%, and his free throw shooting percentage was 75.4%.

In fact, Spelman's performance in the K League in the past few seasons has shown a significant downward trend. His offensive efficiency and three-point shooting percentage have been declining. His performance after returning to the K League last season is not a particularly ideal level. Not only that, it is indeed difficult for him to provide more help and support to the team due to his figure and athletic ability on the defensive end, and may even become the opponent's focus of attack. On the one hand, Spelman's characteristics on the offensive end seem to have a high degree of matching with Zhou Qi, but on the other hand, his professionalism, his game attitude and his performance on the defensive end are indeed very worrying.
